Do you have incredible memories of sitting on your grandma's
lap? You can create some fun memories for your class with this grandma telling
stories. Sit this beautiful grandma on your lap and put one hand in her mouth
and one hand into one of the hands for a puppet that can pick up props or make
hand gestures. Grannies are a natural for storytelling.
Use this puppet to retell the story of the "Old Woman Who
Swallowed a Fly." She comes complete with all the little animals in the
story and she has an opening in the mouth to make her look like she really
swallows.
If
you have never used a human hand puppet you are in for a real treat. A
human hand puppet means that you use a human hand inside the glove of the
puppet. With this method of manipulation you can get some very realistic
results. You can do magic tricks, sign language or use props more easily.
The human hand puppet can be
used for one or two puppeteer operations. If you are only using one
puppeteer, then stuff the other hand and pin it at his side or stuff
it like it is in a pocket behind the puppet.
If you are using two
puppeteers you will want to use the puppets behind a stage. This
method takes some practice to coordinate the movements, but it is well
worth the effort. The taller person does the head of the puppet. The
shorter person operates the hands.
When entering and exiting the
stage, drop the hands below the stage and exit to the side instead of
trying to turn the puppet backwards and exiting.
