O, Come Let Us Adore Him

I pray that your Christmas will be blessed with joy, love and many fruitful opportunities to impact children and families with the blessed hope that Christmas brings.

Christmas is an incredible opportunity to help children discover Jesus as the wise men did so long ago. Before you quit reading with the affirmation, my children already know about Jesus, let me explain.

The wise men from the East wondered when they saw the star. When they understood the wonderful news that the star was a sign that the King of Kings had come into the world, the wise men wanted to see the Messiah for them selves. But more than just see the King, the wise men came to worship.  Worship is a natural response when you really discover Jesus. Even children will desire as the wise men did, "Come let us adore Him!"

So our challenge as children's ministry leaders is to lead children to discover not only a baby in a stable, but the living Lord of Christmas. It is a journey much like the one the wise men took.

1. The wise men saw and they wondered. Christmas holds countless opportunities to introduce children to the wonders of a Jesus filled Christmas. Get outside the walls of your church. Fun puppet programs. Christmas parades. Parties. Story hours at the library and community events.

2. They understood the wonderful news. Find ways to clearly communicate the message of Christmas not only the story of Christmas. Use captivating tools. Magic tricks with a strong message. Story  bags. Visuals. Have something to say. Pray that God will penetrate their hearts and use your efforts. Pray that the Holy Spirit will open their eyes that they will see. Knowing Jesus really is wonderful. Help them taste and see that the Lord is good.

3. They wanted. Be careful to nurture the smallest desire as a camper would fan the dry grass as he adds tiny twigs to start a camp fire. Make time in your class for children to pray. Help them value prayer and make it a part of their life style.

4. They worshipped. When they got in His presence they worshiped Him. It is an awesome experience to get in His presence. Children will worship when you deliberately make His presence a priority. Teach the children to express their love and thankfulness to God through worship. Model worship for them. Explain with scriptures why you worship the way you do.

Although I haven't seen any stars in the sky to lead people to Jesus, I've met so many people just like you that are a reflection of the brightest star of all-Jesus. People like you, reflecting His light and His love to boys and girls that need Jesus.

The New Year arrives on the heels of Christmas with  the need to equip yourself and your ministry team for effective ministry for 2004. We would love to help you sharpen your skills and rekindle your vision with a seminar at your church in 2004.
